Connection to Self

Who is this person you call by name? I am so and so. But do you really know who you are? Are you truly in touch with your thoughts, your feelings and your connection to the Oneness? Your descriptions of yourselves usually encompass your position in this world. I am a teacher, a mother, a father, a student. I like donuts, baseball, reading, music. And surely, your jobs, your likes and dislikes touch on the person you truly are. But what of your innermost self? There are so many layers to who you are and many of you have barely touched the surface.

You have your emotional self, your physical self, your intellectual self, your spiritual self, your God self…..yes, your God self…..your connection with the Divine. Buried deep inside all of those other parts of you is your connection with the All That Is. So while you introduce yourselves as a farmer, a sister, a son, which are your traits in this lifetime here on this plane, there is a deeper, ever-present part of yourself that connects you with everyone else.

People want to know who you are, what you do, so that they can get a sense of you. But in those short descriptions, are you really describing your true self? Labels, one word labels, that do not even touch the surface of who you really are. One word labels so that others can group you in the box with others they have met with the same label. And yet you are so different than the others. If you could describe yourself without those labels how would you do it?

We understand that you search for a commonality amongst yourselves when you first meet and this is your practice. However the commonality is that you are all the same. You all have the same connection to the Divine. Rather than label yourselves, can you just be present with others, in the moment? Share the experience, the feelings and understand the connection you already have with each other and with the Divine. Labels do not begin to capture your true essence. You do it with others, but you also do it with yourselves. And perhaps that is where you should start. Do not think of yourself as JUST a nurse, a writer, a friend. Can you expand your consciousness to a larger image of yourself? Not ego, we are not talking ego. But not to diminutize who you truly are.

You are an incredible being with powerful gifts, someone who cannot be described with just one word. Can you try to think of yourselves differently and begin to realize the depth of your being? See yourselves as we see you, as an extension of the Divine. And do not say you are not deserving of this….IT IS WHO YOU TRULY ARE. Relish in that truth and spread your wings. It is almost time to fly.
